The
Population Summit took place on Monday, February 25, 2002 at Melbourne's
Regent Theatre. The purpose of the day was to spark public debate about
Australia's population.
More than 600
delegates attended and presented speeches at the Summit including Bob Hawke
AC, Virginia Trioli, Richard Pratt AO, Prof. Mary Kalantzis, Steve Vizard,
Simon Crean, Robyn Spencer of One Nation, and Malcolm Fraser AC.
OzProspect was an
organising sponsor of the event. OzProspect's Tim
Watts, Meg Mundell, Tim Flannery and Darren Godwell presented speeches and
participated in panel discussions.
Communique
After consultation and
debate among the delegates, a communique proposing a National Population
Council was drafted and forwarded to the Australian Governments. Six
State Premier signed on to the proposal. Click
