Professor Tim Flannery
Tim is
currently the Director of the Museum of South Australia in Adelaide. He
is the author of numerous bestselling books on ecology including The
Future Eaters, The Eternal Frontier and Throwim’
Way Leg. He is a frequent public speaker and appears regularly on
radio and television as a commentator on matters relating to population
policy, the environment and paleontology. His
articles have appeared in The New York Review of Books, The Age,
Sydney Morning Herald and The Australian.
Greg Barns
Greg is a columnist for the Hobart Mercury and the
immediate past Chair of the Australian Republican Movement. He is a
prolific contributor of policy analysis and opinion articles to The Age,
The Australian Financial Review, Herald Sun and Sydney Morning Herald.
He has previously been the CEO of the Australian Gold Council and worked as
an advisor to John Fahey while he was Federal Minister for Finance and
Administration in the Howard Government. Greg lives in Hobart.
Kathy Bail
Based in
Sydney, Kathy is the Editor of Australia’s leading national affairs weekly, The
Bulletin. In 1996 she edited a collection of essays called “DIY
Feminism” that was published by Allen & Unwin.
She has previously been Editor of HQ magazine and Rolling Stone.
Professor Cheryl Saunders, AO
Cheryl is the Director of the
Institute for International and Comparative Law at the University of
Melbourne. She is an internationally recognized authority on
constitution design and was engaged by the government of South Africa as part
of the team which drafted that nation’s new constitution. Since 1990
she has been editor of the Public Law Review. She was awarded the Order
of Australia in 1994 for services to law and administration and was elected a
Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in the same year.
Lorraine Elliott
Lorraine joined the OzProspect board in 2003. As a Victorian Liberal MLA, she served as
Shadow Minister for Community Services from 1999 to 2002 and was
Parliamentary Secretary for the Arts under Premier Jeff Kennett from 1996 to
1999. She is a member of the board of
the Melbourne Festival; ‘Big Brothers, Big Sisters’, a mentoring organization
for at-risk youth; St Vincent’s Health Melbourne and the Australian
Children’s Television Foundation. She
resides in Richmond, Victoria.
Mark Davis
Mark’s first book “Gangland: Cultural Elites and the New
Generationalism”, created shockwaves in the
Australian media establishment when it was released in 1997. His
groundbreaking study of the generational barriers preventing young thinkers
taking part in national debate served as a wake-up call for many. He is
a regular contributor of analysis and criticism to The Age and Sydney
Morning Herald and frequently gives keynote speeches to conferences on
youth, current affairs, politics and the arts. Mark’s next book, due to
be published in early 2003, will address the negative consequences of
globalization.
Dr Fiona Stewart
Fiona is a communications sociologist and a world
pioneer in the area of Internet communication and online research. In recent
years, Fiona has become well known for her provocative opinion editorials in
The Age, The Australian, Herald Sun and AFR. With Professor Dale Spender,
Fiona's other research interests include the role of Intellectual Property in
the global education market. In February 2002 Fiona founded the Australian
consumer feedback website, NotGoodEnough.org to give consumers a new voice.
Fiona has postgraduate qualifications in public policy and law (including a
PhD in sociology). She is co-author of Internet Communication and
Qualitative Research: A Handbook for Researching Online (Sage, London,
2000).
Hugh Martin
Hugh has been involved in the development of OzProspect
from its inception in 2001. Based in
Point Lonsdale, Victoria, Hugh is the Editor of The Age Online and recently covered the Olympics from Athens for
the website. He is the co-editor with
Steve Vizard and Tim Watts of Australia’s
Population Challenge which was released by Penguin in 2003. He is a regular contributor of commentary
to the opinion pages of The Age and
Herald Sun with a particular
interest in media regulation and cultural affairs.
Tim Watts (OzProspect Founder and Director)
Tim’s
writing on the information economy and corporate governance regularly appears
in The Australian, BRW and Australian Financial Review. He
has been a guest commentator on The 7.30 Report and 774 ABC Radio in
Melbourne, and was recently called to deliver expert testimony before the
Productivity Commission’s inquiry into radiocommunications.
Based in Melbourne, he is a Research Fellow with the Australia & New
Zealand School of Government. He holds a Masters in Political Economy
from Northeastern University in Boston, where he
spent several years as US correspondent for BRW magazine. He is
the editor (with Steve Vizard and Hugh Martin) of Australia's Population
Challenge which was recently published by Penguin.
